Donald Goines' Books

donald goines pic.gif (8687 bytes)  Michael Covino of the Village Voice wrote of Donald Goines: "All those [other black] writers, no matter how well they dealt with the black experience, appealed largely to an educated white readership.

Review: Baby let me tell you-I knew absolutely nothing about Donald Goines until my mother turned me on to him. I went to the library to get a book, she asked me to pick up one of her favorite childhood books "The Boxcar Children" and anything by Donald Goines. I wasn't familiar with his work, so I shrugged told her "aight" and picked it up for her. When I got back, she started in on her kids' book and I read the back cover of the Black Girl Lost book, then I started reading it. No lie, I swear 'fo neck bones I read that book in like 4 hours! I didn't take a break, and when I did to use the restroom, I took it with me! The way he describes everything happening is like you are actually there-it seems so real. I bought every last one of his books and have read them several times over. He is a literary genius! by MsDivaVixxxen@aol.com

Review: 4-2006 Every book I have ever read from this man kept me wanting more, like a young lady writes," I didn't even like 2 read until i picked up a Donald Goines' novel, the first book I read was "Never Die Alone" and after that I was reading every Donald Goines book I could, and being from his hometown of Detroit, I must show this man love, Bezzy, Hate~N~Pain Recordz daboybezzy18777@aol.com

Donald Writes No More by Eddie Stone -Holloway House Publishing Company/Mass Market Paper Back- $7.99

OUR PRICE - Now $6.30

Donald Goines was all of these things. He started as a kid, the product of a middle-class family. After high school he joined the Navy, and discovered the heroin that would rule the remainder of his life. On the streets, he turned to writing when he was straight enough to keep at it. He used the language of the streets and wrote of the streets and its people. His success was immediate and exciting, But eventually the streets claimed him. He was murdered as he sat writing a new book. Here for the first time is the completed story. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Book Review: DONALD WRITES NO MORE By Eddie Stone. The late Donald Goines is treated with dignity here and the biography is hard to put down. If you're a fan of Donald Goines and are interested in knowing about his background and what drove him I recommend this book. I also recommend anything by Iceberg Slim aka Robert Beck. by Kirk Alex, author: Working the Hard Side of the Street

Black Gangster by Donald Goines -Holloway House Publishing Company/Mass Market Paper Back- $7.99

OUR PRICE - Now $6.30

A large part of Goines' thirty nine years of life was spent being a successful pimp, a heif, an operator of corn liquor houses, an armed robber, and a small time dope dealer. He lived the life of the streets and out of that experience he created Prince, the anti-hero of Black Gangster! It's the story of the shocking underworld of black organized crime and the fledgling black "godfather" who goes from teenager ganglord to powerful Detroit mobster. Like the gangsters of the 1920's, he begins with boot-legging and branches out into every known crime --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Book Review: 2-27-2001 Black Gangsters is truly a magnificent peace of work. It didn't take me long to finish it due to the fact that it was so suspenseful. I truly enjoyed this work of art and i can almost guarantee the same for you.

Black Girl Lost by Donald Goines -Holloway House Publishing Company/Mass Market Paper Back- $7.99

The she met Chink and discovered love and affection...and rape and murder!

Book Review: BLACK GIRL LOST: THIS IS A MUST READ BOOK FOR EVERY AFRICAN AMERICAN I THINK IT SHOULD BE ON THE BOOK LIST FOR STUDENTS IN HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE. GOINES IS ONE OF THE BEST STORY TELLERS OF OUR TIMES. THE BOOK OBVIOUSLY INSPIRED OTHER BOOKS THAT WERE WRITTEN SUCH AS B-MORE CAREFUL BY: SHANNON HOLMES, COLDEST WINTER EVER BY: SISTER SOULJAH. AFTER READING CRIME PARTNERS, DEATH LIST, KENYATTAS REVENGE, KENYATTAS LAST HIT I WAS A FAN BUT BLACK GIRL LOST HAS TO BE HIS BEST BOOK. ODELL G. KIMNYAK@AOL.COM

Book Review: Black Girl Lost is another one of Goines many masterpieces that grabbed my attention. It manifests the power of two seemingly lost souls coming together in the name of love to form one, divided by circumstance, but reunited by a unseparable desire for each other. If "true love" could be defined this book would be the definition. Truly magnificent work.*********** Wyzdom Wyzdom@mailgods.com

King David never let anything stand in his way, as he clawed his way out of the mean streets. If it took busting an old lady's head open with a Coke bottle for her last dollar, so be it. Mixing battery acid with cocaine to gain revenge was acceptable, too. Whatever it took. Then he made it big-- only to find others had not forgotten, had no intention of forgiving. They came after him. He left behind a Cadillac and a diary, left it to a writer Donald Goines called "Paul Pawlowski." Like all Goines' novels, Never Die alone is based on truth.
